Ingredients
- 4 eggs (farm fresh, if possible)
- 1/2 c. half and half cream
- 1/3 c. orange juice
- 1 tsp. orange zest
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cardamon, ground
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, ground
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, ground (Ceylon cinnamon recommended)
- 1 Tbsp. Heritage Bee Co. CARDAMOM Honey
- 8 Slices of day-old bread (we love using Challah !)
- 2 Tbsp butter (grass-fed recommended)
- Pinch of sea salt
- Icing sugar for garnish
Method
- Beat eggs, cream, orange juice, Cardamom Honey, vanilla, spices and salt in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Soak bread for 30-60 second in the mixture, turning to coat evenly.
- Pan fry the bread until golden brown. About 3 minutes per side (depending on thickness of bread).
- Set aside each piece while the remaining ones are cooked. Add more butter to pan, if necessary.
- Serve immediately with your favourite toppings. Dust with icing sugar.
- Bonus: Gently warm some local maple syrup with our Cardamom Honey in a small pot for an extra delicious warm French Toast topping.
